Dow Jones index (DJI 30) is an US Stock market index which shows how 30 of the large publicly owned companies based in USA have traded. It is the second-oldest US stock market index after the Dow Jones Transportation Average. Both of these indices are created by Charles Dow.
Dow Jones index is now at a very critical level 22,000. This level is not only psychologically BIG number but also critical since it has actually surpassed the drop during GFC from October 2007 to January 2009 by just more than 200% (200% was at 21,926 level).
During the Market drop of 4,553 points from January 2000 till October 2002, it recovered during October 2002 to October 2007 just below 161.8% (which was 7,728 points at 14,564) and stopped at the high of 14,198. But this time the drop during GFC was 7,728 points and till date the recovery is 15,578 points (which is more than 200%).
